In the often subjective, imprecise domain of musculoskeletal health, FIGUR8 provides the first FDA-registered, accurate, objective MSK assessment that’s practical for any physical therapy clinic. This system needed to be fast and reliable, and it needed to produce clear reports to help inform treatment and track patient recovery. One particularly challenging aspect: how could we guide the clinician toward perfect sensor placement, every time? I conducted usability studies to identify key stumbling points; I developed potential concepts, and made physical mockups of the most promising approaches; and I road-tested functional prototypes, collecting vital data that would help leadership make informed product decisions.
